   The Designed to Evolve Principle

“This line of reasoning finds that biblical texts need not be allegory to accommodate acceptance of evolutionary science. This view recognizes scripture as an accurate account of history through proper context and when the use of metaphor is considered for the time scales involved. This represents a more theologically sound methodology. As was concluded earlier in the analysis of Genesis chapter one, the biblical creation account is a remarkable prediction of the future scientific discovery of our time. . . . The designed to evolve principle could include progressive creationism, with evolution working to modify the basic body plans originally created. . . . This viewpoint sees God as being in continual control of the process, even when natural mechanisms are able to describe it completely.   In essence, natural mechanisms have spiritual purpose. And all natural phenomena can be guided through God’s continual control at the quantum level. The origin of life is another subject apart from evolution. . . . But there is scientific reason to expect that the Creator was required to provide a mechanism or a divine act. . . . This postulates that all events are controlled by God at the quantum level; if life evolved, it did so with God guiding it every step of the way."

• As noted above, I agree that the bronze-age Hebrew scriptures were an “accurate account” of their primitive philosophical worldview. Which was similar in many ways to most middle-eastern civilizations of that era (e.g. Greeks, Egyptians). Their primary advantage was the unifying principle of the Monotheistic model of supernatural interventions. That single source of control was a step in the direction of our modern scientific understanding. But it was a philosophical model, not scientific, and it was concerned with motives, not mechanisms.

• The Designed to Evolve principle is similar to my own notion of on-going creation : Intelligent Evolution. IE begins with the informed assumption that Information (physical & meta-physical) is the essence of our reality. And the creative force behind the Progressive Creation is what I call EnFormAction.

• The mechanism (“divine act”; Quantum Mechanics) of Intelligent Evolution is the interaction of matter & energy, which are both forms of fundamental Information. Since Enformation is essentially a malleable mental substance that can take on many forms, the physical mechanisms of EnFormAction would presumably be able to generate such meta-physical processes as Life & Mind6.

• Hence, all events in reality are ultimately controlled by G*D, in the sense that the algorithmic program of Evolution was designed in the beginning to automatically find its way to the designated final output : the Solution. What that ultimate purpose might be is currently beyond our ken. So all we can do is guess what G*D wants of us. And that is what world religions have been dispensing for eons : speculations presented as revelations. Yet, I suppose their guess is as good as mine. But, like the author of this book, I think my interpretation fits the current evidence better than all the other religious, philosoph-ical, and scientific paradigms to date. Of course, I could be wrong. But I doubt it. 

6. Life & Mind emerge    from Information :

   The Enformationism thesis concludes that evolution is a combination of both Design (laws; criteria; algorithms) and Chance (randomness; contingency; statistics). The Great Programmer’s design intent is encoded in the Laws of Physics, including the Initial Conditions of Cosmology. But the process of development is given free reign to explore many possibilities over a long run of the program.

Natural Mechanisms – Spiritual Purpose
   IMHO, the biblical Hebrews were not privy to inside information (i.e. revelation) on the general concept of progressive Creation and Evolution. The contemporary Greek philosophers had similar views that could be loosely interpreted as prophetic of modern scientific knowledge.
   For example, Aristotle’s Great Chain of Being was a teleological explanation for why various species are designed to fit their niche in the eco-system. Both theories were prescient in broad-brush concepts, but nescient in specific details.
