   The Anthropic Cosmological Principle

   First Cause vs Omega Point

The authors of the ACP book, especially Tipler, are bolder in their future speculations than I am. They extrapolate from current conditions, combined with some sci-fi assumptions and hypothetical possibilities, to a far-future Omega Point²⁶: the Second Singularity. I was content to project backward to the First Singularity, in order to gain some perspective on the Aristotelian First Cause²⁷, a logically necessary induction from the unquestionable fact of our temporal existence. In the last chapter, on the Final Anthropic Principle, they say : “Were one to adopt a teleological view of Nature, one could go so far as to assert that matter has many of its properties today, not because these properties are necessary for life today, but because these properties will be essential for the existence of life in the distant future.” Their hypothesis sounds plausible, but I wouldn’t accept it as a prophecy. More like a thought-provoking science-fiction story, where the hoped-for hero doesn’t make an appearance until the final credits roll. Amen.

26. Omega Point :
derived from the biblical description of God as the Alpha and Omega, beginning and end.
“The Omega Point is a term Tipler uses to describe a cosmological state in the distant proper-time future of the universe. He claims that this point is required to exist due to the laws of physics.  . . .
This singularity is Tipler's Omega Point. With computational resources diverging to infinity, . . . .  Tipler identifies the Omega Point with God, since, in his view, the Omega Point has all the properties of God claimed by most traditional religions”

27. First Cause :
The self-existent being, G*D or Multiverse, from which every chain of causes must ultimately begin.

“. . . A series of mysterious coincidences between the numerical values of the the fundamental constants of Nature. The possibility of our own existence seems to hinge precariously upon these coincidences..”

THE END

ENFORMATIONISM

“That which is impenetrable to us really exists. Behind the secrets of nature remains something subtle, intangible, and inexplicable. Veneration for this force beyond anything that we can comprehend is my religion.”

― Albert Einstein

The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is comprehensible." This is one of the most famous quotes from Albert Einstein. "The fact that it is comprehensible is a miracle." Similarly, Eugene Wigner said that the unreasonable efficiency of mathematics is "a wonderful gift which we neither understand nor deserve." Thus we have a problem that may seem too metaphysical to be addressed in a meaningful way: Why do we live in a comprehensible universe with certain rules, which can be efficiently used for predicting our future?
